Portico receives $500,000 from UnitedHealth Group

Portico Healthnet, selected late last fall as one of four inaugural recipients of UnitedHealth Group's new United Minnesota Initiative, will expand outreach and coverage programs for the uninsured with a grant of $500,000.  United Minnesota is a ten-year, $100 million initiative designed to advance the health, education, and social well-being of communities in Minnesota through alliances with community organizations.

With UnitedHealth Group's generous support, Portico has doubled the size of its outreach staff from four to eight, focusing expanded efforts on urban school districts with large numbers of uninsured students.  This expansion will enable Portico to reach approximately 20,000 uninsured metro area residents during 2008, an increase of 80 percent from 2007.  Grant funding will also be used to leverage financial support from new hospital partners, enabling Portico to offer coverage in the West Metro.

Portico is grateful for the opportunity to participate in United Minnesota.  This alliance with UnitedHealth Group will significantly strengthen Portico's ability to reduce the number of people without coverage for health care services.
