Family

Having raised his grandson Doniven since birth, Kong is used to providing for the 13 year old growing boy. But the one thing Kong couldn't provide was medical insurance. For many years Kong paid out of pocket for the medical care and prescriptions that his grandson needed, causing a financial stress on the family. A social worker at Doniven’s school referred Kong to Portico Healthnet, and Kong met with one of Portico’s community health workers at the Brooklyn Center Health Resource Center. The community health worker determined that Doniven was likely eligible for Medical Assistance and guided Kong through the application process. Doniven’s application was approved, and now his health care expenses are covered by Medical Assistance. No longer having to worry about coverage for a loved one has been a great relief to Kong.
